Bruja Sana Kombucha — what is kombucha?

Bruja Sana Kombucha is a tea fermented by a living culture of beneficial bacteria and yeast. Our kombucha has the perfect sweet-and-sour balance with a touch of acidity — bubbly, with an unforgettable texture.

It's crafted from an ancient tea recipe long reputed for its medicinal qualities. Fermentation transforms the infusion into an effervescent, refreshing drink full of probiotics, with a range of vitamins and organic acids.

Kombucha is known to have existed for centuries — probably a couple of millennia. No one knows exactly when or where. There are a few different stories about how this drink was born.

It's generally believed to have existed in 220 BC in China; some believe it goes back 4,500 years or even more, and that the person who first made it was an Egyptian witch of health, an expert in the art of fermentation — perhaps a healer who lived in the era of Pharaoh Khufu, builder of the Great Pyramid.

There is evidence mentioning the presence of this drink in China during the Qin dynasty (220 BC), created for Emperor Qinshi Huangdi by a witch of health.

Another story is that of Doctor Kombu, in Korea, who brought the drink to the Japanese emperor Inyoko in 414 AD. It is said that a witch in a village of Samurai — the warriors of ancient Japan — had the warriors carry it in their wineskins, because it gave them energy in battle.
